Wahoo for Wed, Wed Walls!

Saturday morning I woke up at 7:27 a.m. and thought to myself, "Today's the day!"

I jumped out of bed, threw on some sloppy work clothes, and started moving everything to the center of my kitchen. I even pulled the oven and the fridge out, thank you very much. This is what my kitchen USED TO look like:

Then I grabbed my paint card and ran to Lowe's to buy supplies. I came home, turned on my iTunes and got to work. (I listened to the entire Les Mis soundtrack, as well as Mamma Mia!, and various other random playlists. It was awesome.)

It took two coats of TINTED primer (if you ever want a deep dark red, this is the trick - they have to tint the primer with black paint to make it gray or your beautiful deep red will come out pink. I learned that tip from the lady who refinished my hutch, thank goodness!).

Priming Process:

All primed! Then I did two coats of red -- three in some spots to make it just right! And let me tell you, edging with that color was quite the adventure in and of itself!

And about 15 HOURS after I jumped out of bed, here's what we had:

...and there's the hutch that started it all.

Now I can FINALLY pick out some vinyl and do a little decorating!

Two words: YAY ME!!

  1. Awesome Kath! I love the red. I keep thinking I'll paint a wall downstairs that color, but I've never gotten the courage to do it. Yea, for you!
Marci (it posts as mom because that's what I signed up for to comment on Rach's blog. Now I can't change it. Dumb!)

  3. Classy! The effect when you look into the dining area with the soft light coming from the window says, "When are the photographers coming for my photo shoot?"
