The Folkersen Fam

A few months ago we all met for lunch at Iggy's, then the spouses went home and we siblings went to Mom and Sterlings' home to go over family plans for the future... Mom had lists in folders and a package of little pens ready for each of us children. It is really important to Mom that we have plans in place for when she ... graduates. She has her funeral plans outlined, right down to the song she wants us children to sing: "Where Love Is." She had copies of the song for us all, and we practiced at the piano with Sterling accompanying us.

Left to Right: Roger and Diann, Larry and Traci, Keith and Laurie
Kathy, Mom, Brad and Marci, Leslie and Jon, and Sterling

She also wanted to have us draw numbers for some of her special possessions - antiques, and such. Some of the things we all remember growing up with. It is really important to her that there is no arguing over anything. It turned out to be a really fun time for us all, and worked out really well. I think Mom was happy to be able to be there with us and to learn what had significant meaning to each of us. We all have such different memories. We drew numbers, and then took turns choosing from the items she had laid out on the floor in front of us. I was able to choose Mom's scriptures with all of her markings and notes, the piano stool I used to lay on and spin around and around, and Mom's doll. I was very happy about those - they will mean a lot to me and feel like a little bit of Mom.
